Cómo combinar asignaturas

      Sentences have two parts: a subject and a predicate.

Las oraciones tienen dos partes: un sujeto y un predicado.

In the last lesson, you learned about combining predicates. Now let's learn about the opposite - combining subjects!

En la última lección, aprendiste a combinar predicados. Ahora vamos a aprender lo contrario: combinar sujetos.

      We can combine the subjects of two sentences that have the same predicates.

Podemos combinar los sujetos de dos oraciones que tienen los mismos predicados.

Let’s look at an example.

Veamos un ejemplo.

Paul ate ice cream.

Paul comió helado.

The pig ate ice cream.

El cerdo comió helado.

The predicate in both sentences is “ate ice cream”.

El predicado en ambas frases es "comió helado".

Because the predicates are the same, we can combine the two sentences like this:

Como los predicados son los mismos, podemos combinar las dos oraciones así:

Paul and the pig ate ice cream.

Paul y el cerdo comieron helado.

Combining subjects helps us not repeat ourselves.

Combinar temas nos ayuda a no repetirnos.

      Conjunctions are words that combine sentences together.  

Las conjunciones son palabras que combinan oraciones.

To combine subjects, we use the conjunction and.

Para combinar los sujetos, utilizamos la conjunción y.

Yes! Both sentences have the same predicate, “flew a kite”. 

Sí, ambas frases tienen el mismo predicado, "voló una cometa".

👉 So we can combine the subjects with and.

Así que podemos combinar los temas con y.

Bobby and Donna flew a kite.

Bobby y Donna volaron una cometa.

Combine the subjects of these two sentences:

Peggy went to the beach for vacation.

Kathy went to the beach for vacation.

They both have the same predicate, “went to the beach for vacation”.  

Ambos tienen el mismo predicado, "fue a la playa de vacaciones".

👉 We can combine the subjects, Peggy and Kathy, with and.

Podemos combinar los sujetos, Peggy y Kathy, con y.

Peggy and Kathy went to the beach for vacation.

Peggy y Kathy fueron a la playa de vacaciones.
