Numbers are made up of digits

Two-digit number 10

10, 23, 99

Tip: The right (šŸ‘‰) digit is called the Ones digit.

Tens and Ones place

So, how do we add a one-digit number to a two-digit number?

Let's learn with an example.

3 + 23 = ?

1ļøāƒ£ First, we write the numbers in column form, like this:

3 + 23

Tip: Put the Ones place digits in the Ones column on the right (šŸ‘‰).

Next, add one column at a time, starting with the Ones column.

Key Point:

3 + 23

3 + 3 = 6. We write the answer below the answer bar.

Then, add the Tens place:

3 + 23

The blank space above the 2 means there are 0 Tens.

We write 2 in the answer area.

So, we did it!

23 + 3 = 26! šŸ°

Let's Review

To add a 1-digit to a 2-digit number:

1. Write the numbers in column form

Remember: Write the Ones place on the right (šŸ‘‰).

2. Add the Ones place first.

3. Then add the Tens place.

Great job! šŸ˜ŗ

Now, you're ready for the practice.
