What Are 3D Shapes?

      Unlike 2D shapes that are flat, 3D shapes take up space.

What Does 3D Mean?

     3D shapes have three dimensions: length, width, and depth.

2D shapes only have two dimensions: length, and width.

Examples of 3D Shapes

When you're at the beach, what 3D shapes do you see?

Balls, oranges and bubbles are spheres.

Spheres are round. Many of the things you play with are spheres. You can roll them on the ground.

A bucket, a cup and a can of soda are all cylinders.

Lots of people use cylinders to store water or drinks.

A box, an ice cube and a dice are all cubes.

A microwave, a book, and a box are all examples of rectangular prisms.

An ice cream cone and a party hat are all examples of cones.

The pyramids in Egypt, a tent, and an umbrella are all examples of pyramids.
