How to Add Multiples of Ten

Earlier, you learned how to skip count by 10:

0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60...

These numbers are all called multiples of 10!

      Multiples of 10 are numbers with a 0 in the Ones place.

      When we add multiples of 10, we always get a 0 in the Ones place.

Let's learn how to add multiples of 10 with an example.

What's 20 + 10?

You can think about the problem as: 

2 Tens + 1 Tens = 3 Tens

That means 20 + 10 = 30 😎

Adding Using Column Form

You can also add multiples of 10 using column form.

30 + 50 = ?

First, write the column form:

30 + 50

Then, add the Ones place digits:

30 + 50

Multiples of 10 always have 0 in the Ones, so this will always be 0.

Finally, add the Ten's place:

30 + 50

So, 30 + 50 = 80 🎉
