 Building Your Skills, Part 11

Words ending with a vowel and two consonants usually have a short vowel sound.

Key Point:

Take a look.

send
pick
end
both

Remember: the o in 'both' makes a long vowel sound.

'th' is called a consonant digraph, which means it's two consonants that make one sound.

Key Point:

fast
last
must
just
black
bath

Tip: Even though the words 'both' and 'bath' both end with 'th', the 'o' in the word 'both' is long, while the a in 'bath' is short.

The English language is full of fun quirks like that. You'll just know it without thinking in no time. 😺

Can you spell all of these words? Try the practice to see. 😺
