Half, or Halves

      If we divide a whole into 2 equal parts, each part is a half.

If we have more than one half, we write it as halves.

So 1 half, 2 halves, 3 halves, ...

What Are Thirds?

      We make a third by dividing a whole by 3.

If we have more than 1 third, we write it as thirds.

So 1 third, 2 thirds, 3 thirds ...

      If we divide a whole into 4 equal parts, each part is a fourth.

If we look at the picture, we can see that Beth's 12 muffins are divided into four equal parts.

We can also get this using division.
