Let's pretend you're having a party with 10 guests, and you want to buy 10 cookies. 

Imaginemos que celebras una fiesta con 10 invitados y quieres comprar 10 galletas.

Without counting, which tray has about 10 cookies?

Sin contar, ¿qué bandeja tiene unas 10 galletas?

👉 The tray on the right has about 10 cookies.

La bandeja de la derecha tiene unas 10 galletas.

      When you guess how many cookies are in the tray, you are estimating.

Cuando adivinas cuántas galletas hay en la bandeja, estás haciendo una estimación.

More people arrive to your party. Now you have to buy 20 cookies.

Llegan más personas a tu fiesta. Ahora tienes que comprar 20 galletas.

      When we estimate, we use words like about, or close to. That's because estimating is not an exact count. 

Cuando estimamos, utilizamos palabras como "aproximadamente" o "casi", porque estimar no es contar con exactitud.

Even more people arrive to your party. Now you have to buy 30 cookies. Without counting, which tray has about 30 cookies?

So far, you've been guessing which tray has about 10, 20, or 30 cookies.

      Every time you guess to a number that ends in 0, you are estimating to the nearest 10.

Estimating saves you time from counting all the cookies in the tray, especially if there are lots of them.
