These shapes are called congruent.

      Congruent shapes are the same shape and same size.

Tip: When you put shape blocks into their matching hole, you're matching congruent shapes! 

Si pones dos formas congruentes una encima de otra, la de arriba cubriría completamente a la segunda.

If you put two congruent shapes on top of each other, the top one completely covers the second one.

Tienen el mismo número de lados y sus tamaños son iguales.

They have the same number of sides and their sizes are equal.

No importa que sus colores sean diferentes, sólo nos fijamos en su forma y tamaño para ver si son congruentes.

It doesn't matter that their colors are different. We only look at their shape and size to see if they're congruent.

At first, you would think that they're not, because they're laid out differently.

Sólo con mirar estas dos formas, sabemos que no son iguales.

Just by looking at these two shapes, we know they're not the same.

One is a circle and the other one is a square.

Sometimes it is hard to tell just by looking.

¿Y qué hacemos?

So what do we do?

Contamos sus lados.

We count their sides. 

La primera forma tiene 6 lados. La segunda forma tiene 5 lados.

The first shape has 6 sides. The second shape has 5 sides.

Esto significa que las dos formas no son congruentes.

This means that the two shapes are not congruent.

Sometimes figures have exactly the same shape, but they're not congruent.
