Let's check out an example.

Imagine you ask your friends which pets they have. You want to know how many have dogs, how many have cats, and how many have fish as pets. Some have 2 types of pets, and some even have all 3 types of pets.

You write down their names, and all of their pets:

If someone asks how many of your friends have dogs only, it's hard to find the answer from the pictograph above.

So instead, you make a Venn diagram with 3 circles.
